All about Holding Space Healing
My Story
Life can be beautiful, messy, overwhelming, sad, and joyful. Sometimes all these feelings happen all at once. Sometimes our mindset and feelings are impacting how we cope day to day, and influence how we think and perceive things that happen to us and around us. I have personally seen this in the work I have done for many years.
My name is Jake Enevoldsen, and I am an accredited social worker and counsellor and adult educator of mental health, counselling, and community services. I created Holding Space Healing due to a need to support people to achieve the life and goals they want.
In counselling theory, there is a big emphasis on 'holding space' for people. Holding Space is about creating a safe, non-judgmental environment where a person can freely be themselves, wholeheartedly, and be safe enough to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of interruption, criticism, or hate. It means being fully present, physically and emotionally, and offering wholehearted listening and compassion to help you process your thoughts and feelings.
I want you to feel heard, to be seen, and to be understood.
I believe in the power of counselling to transform lives positively. I am dedicated to helping individuals achieve mental well-being and personal growth through evidence-based practices and tailored treatment. I am not here to diagnose you or tell you what to do; I am hear to guide, listen, and be the support you need during this time - whether you see me once or ongoing!

What would a first session look like?
A first session with Jake is a bit like a 'get to know you' session. Jake will explore a bit about who you are, ask you questions about your current situation, including your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Jake will develop a relationship with you, as he believes this is vital in making sure you feel safe in opening up. A first session might have a few forms for you to fill out, but Jake promises to not make it too overwhelming!
Therapy Techniques
Jake uses a range of counselling modalities and techniques during session. Common counselling models that Jake utilises include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. Jake is trained in these types of therapy, and teaches these to students studying counselling.
